Field of use

• The medicine is a urological.
• It is used
  • For urinary acidification with the therapeutic goal:
    • Optimization of the effect of antibiotics with effects optimum in the acid urine (pH 4 - 6): z. B. ampicillin, carbenicillin, nalidixic acid, nitrofurane.
    • Avoidance of new stone formation in phosphate stones (Struvit, carbonateatapit, brush).
    • Inhibition of bacterial growth.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be taken
  • if they are hypersensitive to the drug's effective component or one of the other components.
  • in the case of congenital metabolic disease (homocysteineuria)
  • for uric acid and cystin stone disorders
  • with renal insufficiency
  • in the case of oxalose (increased deposition of calcium oxalat crystals in kidney tissue and/or other organs)
  • for methionine-adenosyltransferase deficiency
  • with metabolic and renal tubular acidosis
  • in infants.

dosage

• Always take the medicine exactly according to the instruction. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure.
  • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
    • 1 - 2 tablets 3 times a day (corresponding to 3 times 0.5 - 1 g methionin daily).
    • In the case of patients who are not at risk of acidosis, the dosage can be increased to 10 g/day in special cases.
    • The aim is to therapeutically a pH of the urine small pH 6. It must be taken into account that the effect of the medicine can only occur after 5 - 6 days.

 

• Duration of the application
  • The duration of use depends exclusively on the therapeutic necessity.
  • Please speak to your doctor if you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak.

 

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • Cases of overdose have not yet become known.

 

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • If you have once forgotten an take, do not catch up, but continue to drive with the next intake, as described in the dosage instructions.

Patient information

• Particular caution is required when taking it
  • Due to the risk of synthesis of neurotoxic mercaptans in bacterial metabolism, no methionine is to be administered in patients with liver failure or hepatogenic encephalopathy.
  • In the event of a lack of folic acid, vitamin B₂, B₆ and/or B₁₂ it can be increased under treatment with methionineof the homocysteine bleeding. If the film-coated tablets are long-term use, it is therefore important to pay attention to a folic acid and vitamin-B-rich diet.
  • The homocysteine blood mirror can be increased as part of a thyroid underactive function. Therefore, the thyroid function must be checked before treatment with methionine.
  • Under the treatment with methionine, increased calcium excretion in the urine can occur. If the film -coated tablets are long -term use, it must therefore be used to regularly control the mineral balance.
  • In the case of patients at risk of acidosis, long-term treatment with methionine should be carried out in the blood with regular control of the acid-base balance.
  • Children
    • There is no sufficient examinations for the use of this drug in children. The film -coated tablets should therefore not be used in children under the age of 12.

 

• Wateriness and operating machines
  • No effects known.

Pregnancy

• There is no sufficient data for the use of methionine during pregnancy and lactation. Pregnant and breastfeeding should only take the medicine after careful use-risk assessment by the doctor.
