Brief information on methionine:
Methionine is an essential (essential) sulfur-containing amino acid. The important intermediate product S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) is formed via the methionine metabolism. SAM is used in the body as a starting substance for the construction of polyamines, adrenaline, acetylcholine and choline synthesis. SAM is an important methyl group donor in metabolism. Further steps of the methionine metabolism result in homocysteine ? Cysteine ?Taurine. To activate these mechanisms, the provision of vitamin B6, folic acid and vitamin B12 is essential.
