The seeds of the Guarana plant growing in South America contain up to 5x more caffeine than a coffee bean. For me, it's much better than energy drinks. I've never liked coffee, so I only drink it when I have nothing else available.For a few years, I got my caffeine from various mate drinks until I finally realized how much sugar I was actually consuming.25 grams per 0.5-liter bottle!I often drank one or two bottles of Club Mate on a workday, sometimes even three or four.It ended up tasting disgustingly sweet, and I had to force it down, but I needed the caffeine.I was consuming 50 to 100 grams of sugar from that alone.Since I also eat a lot of sweets, I wanted to eliminate at least this source of sugar.Unfortunately, I couldn't find a mate drink with sweeteners that I liked.So I switched to capsules.Sugar/sweetener is really only in energy drinks and sweetened coffee because caffeine tastes so bitter and to make it more palatable.The advantage of these capsules is simply that you don't taste the bitter caffeine because they only dissolve in the digestive tract, releasing the guarana powder.Therefore, there's no unnecessary sugar intake.I chose these capsules because most others contain too much caffeine per capsule for my liking.These only contain 50 mg, making them easy to dose.I usually take two at once (100 mg) because I don't really feel the effect with just one.I rarely take more than four capsules a day.Secondly, the packaging clearly states the ingredients (see product description).And finally, comparable capsules, like those from "Mach dich wach" (Wake Up), are far too expensive per capsule.I don't feel the effects of the caffeine as quickly as with mate or coffee, probably because I don't taste anything when swallowing (so there's no placebo effect of feeling instantly more awake).But the effect is just as good and long-lasting as with those two.These capsules, like most dietary supplements, are cheaper in online pharmacies than on Amazon.Just search for them on Medizinfuchs and you'll save another 40%.If I calculate the price per 100 mg of caffeine, it's not much cheaper than Club Mate, but at least it's without all the sugar.
