The non-toxic fruits of various types of roses, especially the dog rose, are called rose hips.
The part of the name Hag- indicates the occurrence of the plant (Rosa canina) on hedges, while the second part of the name Butte corresponds to the old German word Butz, Butzen (thickening).
The wild roses themselves, on which rose hips grow, are commonly referred to as rose hips.
