It's not something you talk about! Almost every man is confronted with the fact that the prostate gland, located beneath the bladder, grows with age and constricts the urethra. This condition, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP), occurs in 50% of all men between the ages of 50 and 60. A change in hormonal balance with age is thought to be the cause of this growth. This enlargement of the prostate initially causes minor discomfort when urinating, but this discomfort worsens if left untreated. A weakening urine stream, delayed bladder emptying, and frequent urination are the first signs of enlargement. This can be particularly disturbing at night when the frequent urge to urinate makes it impossible to sleep through the night. Regular urological examinations help to detect the condition early and rule out malignant prostatic disease. In the early stages of symptoms, drug therapy can provide great relief.

For many years, one herbal active ingredient in particular has proven effective for gentle therapy. The medicinal product Harzol® contains phytosterol (ß-sitosterone), a plant extract originating from the South African medicinal plant Hypoxis rooperi and extracted from the wood of Pinus and Picea species (pines and spruces). Clinical studies have demonstrated the superiority of Harzol® over placebo in a large patient population for the initial symptoms (stages I and II) of an enlarged prostate. The preparation can be taken over a longer period of time and relieves the typical symptoms within a short period of time. Harzol® is manufactured in Germany.
