Instructions for use

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

How should it be used?
Apply the medicine thickly to the affected area(s) of skin. Then massage the medicine in gently. The area(s) treated with the medicine should be covered with a bandage. Remove any remaining ointment before each dressing change.
Wash your hands thoroughly after use.
Avoid accidental contact with the eyes.

Duration of use?
The duration of use depends on the nature of the symptoms and/or the course of the disease. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdose?
An overdose may cause skin irritation. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Mode of action

How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient, ammonium bitumen sulfonate, is a sulfonated shale oil. When applied to the skin, ammonium bitumen sulfonate has a weak antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.

based on 1 g of ointment

500 mg ammonium bitumensulfonate

+ Yellow petrolatum

+ Microcrystalline hydrocarbons (C40-C60)

170 mg lanolin

maximum 0.034 mg butylhydroxytoluene

+ Purified water

What should you be aware of?
- Caution if you are allergic to shale oil (ichthammol, ichthyol, Tyrolean shale oil)!
- Antioxidants (e.g., butylhydroxyanisole, butylhydroxytoluene) can cause skin irritation (e.g., contact dermatitis), eye irritation, and mucous membrane irritation.
- Lanolin alcohols (e.g., wool wax, lanolin) can cause skin irritation (e.g., contact dermatitis).
- There may be interactions with certain medications. Therefore, you should always inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medication you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medication. This also applies to medications you buy yourself, use only occasionally, or have used for some time.
