Silomat® Cough suppressant lozenges with lemon flavor for the relief of dry, tickly coughs
DEN TEUFELSKREIS DURCHBRECHEN
When the acute symptoms of a cold are over, you hope you're over it. The runny nose dries out again, and when you cough, you no longer produce mucus. Nevertheless, the coughing continues and becomes excruciating. It irritates the sensitive mucous membranes in the bronchi until they become inflamed. A vicious cycle of irritation and coughing ensues, which is exhausting during the day and, above all, prevents you from resting at night.
HUSTENREIZ STILLEN - RUHE SCHENKEN
The urge to cough originates in the airways and is actually a life-preserving reflex. It removes obstructions from the trachea and bronchi—be it improperly swallowed food or bacteria-laden mucus that needs to be expelled from the lungs. The stimulus is processed in a very specific part of the brain, the cough center. Once the stimulus reaches a certain intensity, this part of the brain triggers the cough impulse. With a cold, this happens even with the slightest stimuli. This leads to constant coughing, even though it isn't actually necessary.
BEWÄHRTE WIRKUNG BEI REIZHUSTEN
Dextromethorphan, the world's most studied cough suppressant active ingredient in Silomat® lemon-flavored lozenges, reduces the perception of the urge to cough. This allows the mucous membranes in the bronchi to recover, and you, too, can find peace. Sucking provides initial relief, while the effect gradually builds up.
ANWENDUNGSEMPFEHLUNG
Silomat® lemon-flavored lozenges should only be used for dry coughs without mucus production.
Children aged 6 and older can take one lozenge of Silomat® lemon-flavored lozenge every 4-6 hours, but no more than 6 per day. Teenagers aged 12 and older and adults can take 1-3 lozenges every 4-6 hours, but no more than 12 per day. Then slowly dissolve the lozenges in the mouth.
HUSTEN IST NICHT IMMER GLEICH
Coughing helps clear the airways. If mucus is brought up, this is a good sign. This is because mucus contains harmful bacteria, which the body rids itself of in this way. This type of cough should not be suppressed. Unlike a tickly cough, where no sputum is produced. This unnecessarily strains the airways.
EIN PAAR TIPPS GEGEN REIZHUSTEN
As long as you suffer from a tickly cough, you should avoid drinking alcohol. It further dries out the mucous membranes in the throat, which increases the irritation. Dry heating air has the same effect – therefore, humidifiers or inhalations can also have a soothing effect

Patient Information
- Warnings and Precautions
- Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
- Patients with
- impaired liver function
- impaired kidney function
- Mastocytosis
- should only use this medicine after consulting their doctor. Patients with severe impairment of kidney or liver function should take a lower dose or increase the intervals between doses (dosing intervals) after consulting their doctor.
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine:
- If you are taking medications such as certain antidepressants or antipsychotics, this medicine may interact with these medications and you may experience mental state changes (e.g., agitation, hallucinations, coma) and other effects such as an increase in body temperature above 38°C, increased heart rate, unstable blood pressure and hyperreflexia, muscle stiffness, lack of coordination, and/or gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
- Combined use of preparations with expectorant and antitussive effects may improve the treatment of productive coughs (coughs with phlegm), with expectorant recommended during the day and cough suppressant recommended at night. In patients with a cough with significant mucus production (e.g., bronchiectasis or cystic fibrosis), as well as in patients with neurological diseases (stroke, Parkinson's disease, dementia) who exhibit a significantly impaired cough reflex, the preparation should only be used after consultation with a physician, as reduced sensitivity to cough stimuli with a decrease in cough frequency may be undesirable under these circumstances.
- Chronic cough can be an early symptom of bronchial asthma, therefore this medicine is not indicated for suppressing this cough, especially in children.
- This medicine can lead to addiction. Therefore, treatment should be short-term. In patients prone to drug abuse or drug dependence, treatment should be carried out for a short period of time and under strict medical supervision.
- Caution is also advised if you are prone to alcohol abuse or have suffered from psychiatric disorders in the past.
- Cases of dextromethorphan abuse have been reported, predominantly in adolescents.
- Children
- Children under 6 years of age should not take this medicine. Serious adverse events, including neurological disorders, may occur in children in the event of an overdose. Caregivers should not exceed the recommended dose.
- Ability to drive and use machines
- Even when used as directed, this medicine can frequently cause mild fatigue and dizziness, thereby impairing reaction times to such an extent that the ability to drive or operate machinery is impaired. This applies even more so when combined with alcohol or medications that can impair reaction times.
Pregnancy
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, suspect you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
- Pregnancy
- Observations in humans have so far revealed no evidence of fetal toxicity from dextromethorphan, but the available studies are insufficient to definitively assess the safety of using dextromethorphan during pregnancy. Therefore, dextromethorphan should only be used after a strict benefit-risk assessment by the treating physician and only in exceptional cases.
- Breast-feeding
- There are no studies on the transfer of dextromethorphan into breast milk. Since a respiratory inhibitory effect on the infant cannot be ruled out, dextromethorphan should not be used during breastfeeding.
- Fertility
- Non-clinical studies have shown no effect of dextromethorphan on fertility.
