How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

Iron is one of the vital trace elements and is involved in many metabolic processes in the body. For example, iron is important for the formation of red blood cells.

What speaks against an application?

Always:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Anemia with iron recycling disorder, such as.:
- Sideroachrestic anemia
- Thalassemia
- Lead anemia
- Hemochromatosis (iron overload)
- hemolytic anemia (anemia due to shortened lifespan of the red blood cells)

Under certain circumstances - speak to your doctor or pharmacist:
- Gastric mucosal inflammation
- Ulcers in the digestive tract
- Inflammatory bowel diseases such as:
- Ulcerosa colitis
- Crohn's disease

Which age group must be observed?
- Children under the age of 10: The drug should generally not be used in this age group.

What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: Contact your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the medicine can be used during pregnancy.
- Still -time: Contact your doctor or pharmacist. He will check your special starting position and advise you accordingly whether and how you can continue with breastfeeding.

What adverse effects may occur?

- Gastrointestinal complaints, such as:
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Black coloring of the chair, which is harmless

If you notice a disorder or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

For information at this point, side effects are taken into account that occurs in at least one of 1,000 patients treated.

Hints

What should you consider?
- Caution with allergy against iron hydroxide sucrose!
- There can be medicinal products with which interactions occur. Therefore, you should generally provide the doctor or pharmacist before treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, only apply occasionally or that the application has been available for some time.
- Coffee, cola drinks, mate tea as well as green and black tea should be avoided during treatment with the medication.
- Milk and dairy products (curd cheese, yoghurt, cheese), as well as mineral water, with calcium -enriched drinks and mineral preparations, must be avoided within 2 hours before and 4 hours after ingestion.

Field of use

• Iron preparation with a blood -emerging effect (Antianaemikum). Is used for the therapy of iron deficiency states.

Contradictions

• Must not be taken:
  • if you are hypersensitive to the iron (II) sulfate or one of the other components.
  • in the case of iron overload (e.g. iron storage disease) and iron recycling disorder (lead anemia, sideroachrestic anemia, thalassemia).
  • of children under 10 years.

dosage

• Always take the medicine exactly according to the instruction. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
  • With light iron deficiency 1 retard tablet unscrewed with a little water before breakfast. With severe iron deficiency, 1 retard tablet in the morning and in the evening about 1 hour before meals. After 3 weeks, the dose can be reduced to 1 retard tablet to 1 times a day.

 

• The duration of the intake depends on the type and severity of the iron deficiency. To fill up the iron reserves, after normalizing the values, 1 - 3 months before breakfast should be continued in the morning before breakfast.
• Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • If the medicine has been taken in too large quantities, the doctor should be informed immediately.

 

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • Do not take the double dose if you have forgotten the prior intake.

 

• If you have any further questions about the application of the drug, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking

• With light iron deficiency 1 retard tablet unscrewed with a little water before breakfast.
• With severe iron deficiencys 1 Retard tablet in the morning and in the evening about 1 hour before meals.

Patient information

• Particular caution when taking it is required:
  • if dietary or other iron salt supplements are used to avoid the risk of possible iron overdose.
  • In the event of pre-existing inflammation or ulcers of the gastrointestinal mucosa, the benefit of the treatment should be carefully weighed against the risk of worsening the gastrointestinal disease.
  • Children: Medicines must not be used in children under the age of 10.

Pregnancy

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using all drugs.
• If you are pregnant, you should only take the medicine if your doctor has found an iron deficiency. Treatment with the high dosage of 2 retard tablets per day should not take place over a longer period of time.
• If you breastfeed, you should only take the medicine on the order of your doctor.

Hints

Miscellaneous

- The intake during the meal leads to better tolerance, but reduces optimal iron absorption. During the treatment, it usually leads to a harmless black coloring of the stool. Iron preparations can be the cause of constipation.- During iron therapy, the studies on blood in the stool, urine and stomach juice can be wrong.
