Vitamin B6 deficiency affects metabolism and nerve function
Vitamin B6 – Importance for the human body Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) plays an important role in the metabolism of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. If vitamin B6 is lacking, there is not enough protein available for cell division.Blood and nerve cells also depend on this vitamin and are sensitive to a deficiency.Causes of insufficient supply can include: a poor diet, high alcohol consumption, and certain medications, especially birth control pills in women.Blood pressure medication and other drugs also increase the need for vitamin B6.Warning signs of a deficiency include inflammatory skin changes around the nose, eyes, and mouth, nervousness, irritability, and nerve disorders such as numbness in the arms and legs.
Vitamin B6 Hevert prevents or eliminates a deficiency when there is an increased need for vitamin B6 or a pyridoxine-dependent metabolic disorder. When sufficient vitamin B6 is available, the necessary building blocks for cells are provided, metabolism is activated, energy stores are replenished, and blood formation, the nervous system, and the immune system are strengthened. In this way, vitamin B6 promotes healthy development and regeneration of the body. This high-dose vitamin supplement eliminates disorders in the nervous system and thus normalizes communication between nerves, cells, tissues, and organs.
Through its involvement in protein metabolism, vitamin B6 regulates cell specialization and division. The production of antibodies for a healthy immune system is stimulated, as is the formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin. In the nervous system, vitamin B6 improves signal transmission via neurotransmitters. It helps lower high homocysteine levels, thus reducing a potential risk of vascular disease.
A vitamin B6 deficiency can manifest itself through the following symptoms.
General symptoms such as:
• Insomnia, nervous disorders
• increased irritability
• depressive states
Specific symptoms such as:
• Disturbances of sensory perception in the skin (this can also be triggered by too much vitamin B6!)
• Nerve inflammation
• States of confusion • Increased homocysteine levels in the blood (thus increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke)
Why do we need vitamin B6?Vitamin B6 is primarily needed in protein metabolism. This pathway also facilitates the production of important neurotransmitters for the brain, such as serotonin, dopamine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
Because vitamin B6 is present in most foods, albeit only in small amounts, a deficiency can occur with the popular, high-protein, low-carb diet. The more protein we consume, the more vitamin B6 is needed for its processing. Therefore, even those who consume a high-protein diet, for example, with protein shakes, have an increased need for vitamin B6.
