What can lead to a vitamin D deficiency?

1. Low sun exposure

The main cause of vitamin D deficiency in the population is obvious: there is a lack of sun exposure on the skin. From October to March, the UVB-intensity in Germany is simply too low.

2. Active avoidance of sufficient sun exposure

Even in summer it can happen that the sun's rays on the skin are not enough. This happens when sufficient solar radiation is actively avoided, e.g. B.
• when using sun creams or day creams with a sun protection factor;
• if you spend most of your time indoors (e.g. people who work or live in a home);
• when wearing covering clothing.

3. Certain groups of people may be poorly supplied with vitamin D:
