Mechanism of action

How does the active ingredient in the medicine work?

The active ingredient reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and stops the excessive nasal secretion production during a cold.This allows patients to breathe more freely.The active ingredient also relieves eye irritation (e.g., from drafts) by constricting the dilated blood vessels in the eyeball, thereby reducing excessive blood flow to the mucous membrane.

What are the contraindications?

Always:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Dryness of the nasal mucosa with crusting (rhinitis sicca)
- Acute condition following removal of the pituitary gland through the nose and sphenoid bone (exposed meninges)

Under certain circumstances - consult your doctor or pharmacist:
- Increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma), especially narrow-angle glaucoma
- Cardiovascular diseases, such as:
- Coronary artery disease (impaired blood flow to the heart muscle)
- High blood pressure
- Pheochromocytoma (adrenalin-producing tumor)
- Metabolic disorders, such as:
- Hyperthyroidism
- DiabetesDiabetes mellitus (diabetes)
- Enlarged prostate gland
- Porphyria
- Chronic rhinitis

Which age group should be considered?
- Children under 6 years: This medicine should generally not be used in this age group.There are preparations that are more suitable in terms of strength and/or dosage form.

What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor.Several factors need to be considered to determine whether and how this medicine can be used during pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor or pharmacist.They will assess your individual situation and advise you on whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.

Side effects

What adverse effects can occur?

- Irritation in the nose, such as:
- Burning sensation in the mucous membranes
- Dryness of the nasal mucosa with crusting (rhinitis sicca)
- Sneezing
- Feeling of a blocked nose"
- Nosebleeds
- Hypersensitivity reactions of the skin, such as:
- Spontaneous swelling of the mucous membranes (angioedema)
- Skin rash
- Itching

Notes

What should you be aware of?
- The medication itself can cause a feeling of nasal congestion.Trying to relieve this feeling with the same medication risks permanently damaging the nasal mucosa.This effect can occur after only 5-7 days of use.
- There may be interactions with other medications.Therefore, you should always inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications you are currently taking before starting treatment with a new medication.This also applies to medications you buy yourself, use only occasionally, or whose use was some time ago.
